Nora was raised on the family farm with her parents, her brother Glenn and her two sisters, Joan and Linda, near Hillside, AB.
She attended elementary school and many gatherings at Hillside Hall over the years.
Nora went to junior high in Millet, AB & High School in Wetaskiwin, AB where she met her husband Lyle.
Nora attended college to became a licensed hairstylist.
In 1975 Nichole was born and in 1977 Lorrie was born. They lived in Leduc until 1995 when Nora & Lyle moved to Edmonton, AB.
She worked in a hairdressing salon before joining Lyle in 1973 to work together in their own family business: Henke’s Toy Hobby & Pet Store. They married in 1974.
Nora worked for Canadian Tire then Alco Gas & Oil for many years, building her circle of supportive friends.
Together Nora and Lyle worked hard and made time for fun on the sandy beaches of Mexico, weekly card games with family & friends and shopping excursions. Family was always first.
Nora loved to celebrate.
Christmas was her favourite time to spend with her loved ones.
Her Cancer journey began in 2015. Strength is the first word that comes to mind in describing Nora and her four-year battle with Cancer. Her courage and perseverance was a light to many. She loved and accepted all who knew her. She inspired her family and friends by who she was as a wife, mother, daughter, grandmother & aunty. Nora passed with peace and grace on Feb 24th, 2019 with her husband Lyle at her side and many family and friends in her heart.
Nora is survived by her husband Lyle (44 years married) of Edmonton; her daughters Nichole of Grande Prairie, and Lorrie of Edmonton; grandchildren Brandon Henke of Edmonton, Nile Juneau (Katelynn) of Red Deer, Jacob Pariseau of Grande Prairie, Faith Juneau of Grande Prairie and Joseph Rahey of Edmonton; siblings Linda Fleming (Larry) of Wabamun, Glenn Marr (Karen) of Thorsby; mother-in-law Margaret Henke of Wetaskiwin, brother-in-law Brian (Rhonda) Henke of Ponoka, brother-in-law Duane Henke of Usona.
Nora was predeceased by her parents William (Bill) Marr (1914-1992) and Marie Marr (Moonen) (1920-2001), her sister Joan Marr (1949-1968) and father-in-law Rudolf Henke (1919-2003).
