My Gramma's Recipe Book | In Honour Of Them | Genealogy
This book was written by my Gramma, in the 1960s.

It is a small, pocket-sized notebook of her favourite recipes from snacks to desserts and meals and canning.
I doubt she thought much about the value of the words she was writing in this little book or how much it would mean to someone like me after she passed.
My Gramma suffered from dementia for the last 15-ish years of her life. When it was time to move her to long-term care the family gathered to go through her belongings and decide who was taking which item before donating the rest.
This was my pick. The recipe book and box of recipe cards.
It's all I asked for besides 2 mismatched teacups that I still treasure.
I love this little tiny book of historical recipes that fed my Ancestors to nourish them and help them survive. She was so creative in what she made and she was such a great cook.
I really loved her chocolate zucchini cake.
It was the moistest cake you'd ever taste and would never know there was zucchini in it.
Here is the transposed recipe as she wrote it:
Chocolate Nut Zucchini Cake
3 squares unsweetened chocolate (or chocolate chips & ripe banana)
3 c unsifted flour
1 1/2 tsp b.p (baking powder)
1 tsp b.s (baking soda)
1 1/2 c salad oil
1 tsp salt
3 c sugar
(2 c chopped walnuts)
3 c grated zuccini (zucchini)
Melt chocolate. Cool.
Grease flour pan.
Sift flour, b.p, b.s, & salt
At high speed mix eggs. Add sugar 1/4 c at a time, beating well after each addition.
Add salad oil, cooled chocolate. Beat until well blended. At low speed add dry ingred.; mixing until smooth. Add zuccini (zucchini), nuts.
Cook 350º 1 hr 15 min. Cool on rack 15 min.
